FIRE SAFETY ADVISORY FOR DIWALI FESTIVAL

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct 24: The Andaman & Nicobar Fire and Emergency Services extends warm Diwali greetings to all and wishes for a joyful celebration. To ensure a safe, peaceful and incident-free Diwali we kindly urge the public to follow essential fire safety measures as outlined below:
Do’s:
• Buy quality firecrackers that are legally approved to minimize the risk of accidents.
• Light fire crackers in open areas like parks or large grounds, away from buildings, vehicles and flammable substances.
• Keep of bucket of water readily available in case of fire emergencies.
• Prefer to wear cotton garments to reduce the risk of fire related injuries, as synthetic fabrics can catch fire easily.
• Always have an adult supervising children while bursting fire crackers.
• After bursting, dispose the used fire crackers in a bucket of water to avoid any incident.
• Avoid lighting multiple firecrackers together to prevent unexpected explosions.
• Stand at a safe distance from the firecracker after lighting it.
• Check the wind direction to prevent from blowing towards homes or people.
Don’ts:
• Never light firecrackers inside homes, near windows or other confined spaces.
• Avoid wearing loose garments which can easily catch fire.
• Keep firecrackers away from items like dry leaves, gas cylinders or vehicles.
• Do not try to relight the Unburned firecracker, wait for a while and dispose it off.
• Make sure firecrackers are not set off in areas that could block exits or escape routes in case of fire.
• Never leave oil lamps, candles or diyas unattended, especially near curtains or combustible materials.
• In case of any injury or burn, immediately seek medical help. Do not attempt home remedies without proper guidance.
These guidelines are intended to protect individuals from fire hazards and contribute to reducing pollution levels. The public is urged to cooperate and ensure a safe Diwali for all.
