MASSIVE AGITATION BY CAMPBELL BAY RESIDENTS OVER ERRATIC SUPPLY OF LPG CYLINDERS

Campbell Bay, Oct 22: Residents of three Panchayats of Campbell Bay in Great Nicobar on 21st October 2024, resorted to protest demanding uninterrupted supply of LPG cylinders. LPC consumers in Campbell Bay are enraged over irregular supply of cooking gas in the region. Any disruption in the supply of LPG means a harrowing time for households and the reasons cited by the CCS Ltd, supplying the essential commodity offer them no comfort. The LPG consumers of three Panchayts of Campbell Bay region, totally about 2600 LPG consumets are facing hardship due to non-supply of timely LPG refills in this region. Residents of this region villages are waiting for the supply of LPG refills for the past four months. According to some villagers, the LPG refills were supplied in the first week of June 2024, and since no LPG refills were supplied till date. As per the discussions held with the Director of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Sri Vijayapuram regarding charters of demands, it is informed that shipments of LPG cylinders are expected to arrive in Campbell Bay within the next two weeks. The Director has also assured that every effort is being made to ensure the timely supply of cylinders to meet the needs of consumers, despite the current challenges. Furthermore, concerning the request to provide 12 LPG cylinders per household per year, as per the standard allocation policy, the Director has confirmed that arrangements are being made to maintain a consistent monthly supply of LPG cylinders. This will help ensure that households receive their required allocation on a regular basis without unnecessary delays or shortages. As regards the online booking of LPG, a meeting has been scheduled for 22.10.2024, at 10:00 am with the Manager, CCS, Campbell Bay, in the chamber to discuss the matter. Regular supply of cooking gas remains far from ensured in the region. Chaos became the order of the day in villages in this region wherein consumers have to stand in serpentine queues to obtain their refills. Some even were compelled to dole out extra money from places located away from their homes. Consumers in the region are fuming over recurring disruption in supply of LPG cylinders that has forced household to turn to firewood. At the time LPG truck visit certain areas, consumers are forced to stand in queue. With the UT administration totally banning Kerosene oil, cooking gas is now the only source for the residents. Reacting to such whimsical supply, a homemaker of Campbell Bay was very critical to say that consumers in the region have been staring the roads looking for LPG supply trucks for the past many days, but returning without cylinder. “Erratic supply is the main grouse of the customers here. Though some delay is inevitable, but this time there has been no delivery for the past four months,” said the homemaker.
